The Butterfly Project
While Eva was being treated for leukemia she continued learning with the Southern Health School. Her teacher Jo came to visit Springston and Eva and two of her friends helped to put up a special display for us to see in the school office area.
During Eva's time with Southern Health School, she engaged weekly with online creative space sessions. One particular drawing Eva did, was of a caterpillar with a broken leg and a rainbow cast. Eva related the drawing to her own journey and how she would soon turn into her own butterfly. Eva's mahi and insightful narrative inspired the butterfly project, which also coincided with Mental Health awareness week - Reimagine Wellbeing Together. As a result, we launched the Butterfly Project to acknowledge and celebrate connection, with our wider Southern Health School community.
Each week we gave Eva updates with images and where the butterflies were coming from and which learning space requested the butterflies to visit. The last online session arrived and Eva asked if the butterflies could visit her school when she returned at the beginning of Term 4. Today, Eva and two of her friends at Springston School were delighted to display these in the office space, so everyone can enjoy this colourful installation.
