Poupou art in Kepler

Bobbie Jo Pringle —

Our poupou have been created to represent us - the students of Kepler.

A poupou is a wall panel located underneath the veranda of a Māori wharenui (meeting house). It is generally built to represent the spiritual connection between the tribe and their ancestors and so each poupou is carved with emblems of the tohunga whakairo’s (carver's) particular lineage. These are the poupou of Kepler. We have used traditional designs to represent our strengths and then some of us have drawn an item in our hands to represent something that means a lot to us.
