Principal's Update: Friday 3 December
In this edition: Maintenance work at school over the holidays, End of the year visits and events, Vacancies at Springston next year and RI survey.
A few things to cover today, so apologies for the length of this before I start! But, thank you for reading it.
We have maintenance work happening at school beginning on the 17th Dec, as soon as we are out the door. The Admin block is getting new carpet, paint and a lighting upgrade and the Milford block is getting lighting, insulation (ceiling and underfloor) and new sink cabinetry. Both spaces are getting their heat pumps replaced as well as the swimming pool heat pump. We are getting new roof covering on the caretakers shed and the swimming changing sheds. It's all great news. This is covered by the Ministry Maintenance Fund.
Because we are starting our swimming season, it is unfortunate that this will be interrupted for a short period of time. It's the 'pain before the gain' type of scenario. I will be sending an alert out to announce the closure of the pool on the days the crew are working there. Apologies for any inconvenience.
Please follow all directions concerning health and safety if you are on school grounds during this work period; 17 Dec - 21 January. Thanks.
On Monday 13th we are providing an opportunity for students to meet in their classroom space for 2022 and to meet their new teachers. We believe this is an important part of transitioning students to ease worries and tensions. Thankfully, we will also have our new staff members attending; Nathan, Lucy and Cameron. You will have a chance to meet them at our 'Meet the Teacher/Goal Setting' meetings on the first day back, 2nd Feb
With the new 'Traffic Light' system now in play we have little to change before the end of the year unfortunately. The Springston Hall, has number limits, so we will continue with our original plan to proceed without parents. Thank you for your understanding. I know many of you are disappointed. You will have the opportunity to celebrate your child's achievements at the end of the day or when they get home.
Two things I popped out earlier; the Out of Zone applications and the Religious Education survey, are both nearly due. The OoZ applications invite students from outside our zone to attend Springston School. This applies to children in Years 0-3 for 2022. If you know of anyone who is interested, make sure you pass on the information and get them to apply. Thank you for supporting us. The advert is also in the newsletter.
I have had a good number of responses to the survey, but a few more would be great, so the Board can get a fuller picture of what the community wants. The link here will take you straight to it.
Have a restful weekend everyone.
