From Sharon's desk - 9 August
Another great week here at Springston School Te Kura o Makonui!!
Staffing Update
We are pleased to advise that Rochelle Hiddlestone is returning to us from maternity leave at the start of Term 4. On her return Rochelle will be working as additional classroom teacher support across the school. Ms McCulloch will continue as the classroom teacher in Te Hihiri Kōtuku and Rochelle will continue to provide her classroom release as has been occurring over Terms 2-3.
We also advise that Anneka Dalley, who has been on sick leave for Term 2/3, will be remaining on sick leave for the rest of the year. I know you will join me in wishing her well.
This week our Year 7's have been on camp in Tekapo - I'm sure they will have lots of stories to share on their return!! Due to bad weather yesterday they are doing their ski day today so will not be back until around 5:30pm. Today our Year 4-6 students were due to hold their Olympics Day but with a poor weather forecast, it was decided to postpone until later in the term. They did however continue with their shared lunch😝
This weekend we have 2 teams participating at the Jump Jam competition in Christchurch - GOOD LUCK to everyone!
Next week is Maths Week! Here are some family maths challenges that you might like to try at home. There will be several activities happening at school over this week - ask your child/ren about them 😁
Next week there are also Selwyn Sports Team coaching sessions being held here at school, the junior team visits to Ferrymead and on Wednesday evening we have our Whānau hui. If you and your whānau are intending to come along to the hui, please can you ensure you have let someone at school know numbers so that we can accurately cater for you. You are welcome to bring your tamariki - no child care needed!! 😉
Reminder - school is closed Monday 19 August for a teacher professional development day alongside the other local schools.
Also a reminder that if you are taking your child away during term time or if they are staying home because they are sick, please don't ask teachers to provide work for them to do 😒 If you need some ideas for what you might do with them when away on holiday, teachers can point you to some great ideas and if your child is sick, we want them to rest and get well as soon as possible so that they can return to their class. Many thanks for your understanding.
You may be aware that with the organisation by our FOSS team and the kind generosity of Lincoln New World, we keep a fruit basket in the foyer. This fruit is for all children to enjoy. Recently we have had some children tell us that their parents have said they are not to take it - obviously we assume this is because you have provided them enough in their lunchboxes but we are happy for children to "top up" using the fruit......it is infinitely better than it going to waste 😱
Do you know about the Netsafe website? There is an awesome set of resources to support you and your family around things such as Snapchat and TikTok along with lots of other good ideas for helping to promote responsible age-appropriate use of digital devices.
This week I have attached an information sheet about nurturing mentally strong kids.
Enjoy the weekend 🤗
Thought for this week....
