Children's University
Last Wednesday 30 June, a group of inspired Children's University Year 5 to 8 students attended a whole day field trip down to Lincoln University. A group of approximately 20 students from our school went touring around and learning about new and different topics. (Find out more about these activities later in this article.)
Children's University participants can ‘travel’ with their ‘Passport to Learning’ to engage in learning activities and experiences around their local area, gathering hours towards graduation. Children's University is currently all around Australasia and Africa and is growing.
The day started with a greeting from Jack (Children’s University organiser) in the auditorium. Here we were advised that we would have four classes to take part in. After the briefing we made our way across the campus to our first activity named Sheep 101. Our focus was understanding about farming animals but particularly we focused on cows and sheep.
A favourite for many was our session on Aviation where we pieced together a model plane and named the parts of an aircraft.
After a brief lunch break and a run around on the grounds of the University we ventured into Tomato Magic where we surprisingly learnt about the importance of investment and how to make money. It was a really interesting lecture that got us all thinking.
We finished up on a high note learning about plant flammability. This was very interesting for many of us as this is something that could be a recurring problem/event in future.
This was a valued experience for all of us and we are very privileged to be able to take part in this occasion. On behalf of the Children's University Students, thank you to Wendy and Jack for organising this event for us.
