Principal's Update: Friday 22 March

Dianne Prendergast —

In this edition: Learning Conversations, Zone Swimming Team, Absences and Easter Break

Thank you to the large number of parents who have booked in for your child's learning conversation with the class teacher. Staff put a lot of time into preparing for these connections with you as well as prepping your child to talk about their learning and next steps. We appreciate the support you are showing your child.

We do, however, still have a significant number of you who have yet to arrange these meetings. Please do so before we need to call you. The link is in the newsletter article. Thank you.

We had a good number of students head off to Rolleston this week to compete in the Zone area Swimming Sports. Congratulation to Amelie and Aydan who will go on to represent Springston  at the Canterbury competition next Wednesday 27 March. Thank you to the parents who transported our swimmers.

Thank you to the majority of parents for your support and also being able to collect your child during the Paid Union Meeting this week. It was very much appreciated.  It also serves as a good reminder that if your child is going to be away, firstly let us know by easily filling out the SchoolApp notice, by email or by phone message and secondly, make sure you say why they are away. Failure to do this results in us registering a truancy absence for your child. We need to know why and please be honest. It's better for us to know there is a problem coming to school than you putting 'sick' when they are not.

At the end of next week is the start of the Easter break. It is not usual for us to have this during term time, as the Ministry usually structures Term 1 so it falls in the holiday. This year, the moveable dates did not work that way, so we have Good Friday, Easter Monday and Easter Tuesday when the school is closed. The general public don't get the Tuesday off, so you just need to be aware that school is closed on that day.

Hopefully we have some lovely autumnal days over the weekend. Enjoy.
