Kapa Haka
Springston School - March 19, 2020
Kapa Haka
Kapa Haka practice is held once a week for our year 4 - 8 students with Whaea Bobbie. It is an opportunity for our tamariki to hone their skills in waiata, waiata-ā-ringa (action songs) , poi and haka. Our group provides the opportunity for multiple students to be the kaitataki (leaders) who encourage other performers and call the performance instructions. It is also an opportunity to learn karakia and tikanga which can be carried through to classroom practices.
Our group performs at Matariki Celebrations and our final assembly. We are looking forward to having more opportunities to perform this year.
Our junior students sing waiata and learn basic waiata-ā-ringa in readiness for when they join kapa haka.
