Principal's Update: Friday 17 September

Dianne Prendergast —

In this edition: Ski trip reminder and Showing gratitude

A reminder to those who wish to part take in the School Ski Trip to Mt Hutt, that the forms and payments need to be in by next Friday. Those not going will be attending school as usual, with some fun activities with the staff remaining.

With so much unhappiness and unease in the world around us and even closer to home, having to cope with the uncertainty of lockdowns, weather events and everything else that gets thrown at us, it is important to remember to be grateful for what we have. It's all too easy to bemoan that it's not fair and wish for more, but actually, we are fortunate to live in a safe environment, have our families around us and people who care.

I know that we only know what we know based on our life experiences and for some children, what they experience, they think is 'normal' and everyone is like that. Well, in fact, we know that is not the case. Many of you have given your children experiences to help them realise this, that they are lucky in so many ways.

However, we don't see that at school often enough. Students who are careless with school equipment, unkind to others or always wanting more are not grateful for what they have and need lots of practice to show this vital character trait. It puts you in a positive frame of mind, is uplifting and helps you to see the good side of things amongst the uncertainty,

The Big Life Journal has a 21 day challenge for families, which you might like to part-take in? You could make up your own based on your family values and experiences. I hope you find something useful in it.
