One of the best days of the year in a country school. Springston students love bringing their pets to school for the day and getting to meet some of the more 'interesting' pets of other students. Make sure you come down and spend pet day with us.
Annually we have a school wide Pet Day early in term 4. Every student has the opportunity to bring a pet to school for judging. Pets have included a variety from ponies, pigs, calves, cats, mice and guinea pigs. Any student who does not have a family pet might bring a soft toy as an novelty pet.
Parades are held after the judging and include lamb/goat drinking races and the grand parade, where owners and pets may be dressed up in fancy costumes.
Pet Day is a day for all the family and we love to have visitors join in the fun, including the local childcare centre. On the day you can have a hot drink from the Coffee Lady and a sausage from the sausage sizzle.
Watch the school notices for details closer to the time.
This is 'opt-in' side of Pet Day where students who have hand reared an agricultural animal and completed a project, participate in a series of up to three days of judging, culminating at the Canterbury Show Grounds. Garden projects can also be judged during December with a home visit. These projects are marked and the combined points add towards badges and certificates at the end of the year. Students are awarded with a ribbon on the day and these are often proudly displayed around their pets during the grand parade.
The details of how to participate in the Agricultural Club are handed out early in term 3. Students have the opportunity to meet with Bobbie to ask questions and to register their interest.
