Meet your Vestry for 2022 (Part 2)
At our AGM in March, members of Vestry were appointed. We asked them to tell us about themselves.
Geoff Bevan joined Lifestreams in early 2020, with his wife Priscilla and Joel (8) and Rhys (5), after the family returned home from a two-year stint in Australia. Geoff works part-time as an employment lawyer and balances that role with parenting (Priscilla works full-time at the hospital). Geoff’s main contribution to vestry is in the area of legal and HR support, and he is also involved in the Lifestreams music on keyboards.
Alistair Sheard (Treasurer): Margaret and I have been parishioners since 1966. We now attend 5.00pm services as we enjoy Choral Evensong and are sidespersons. Sons Matthew and Jeremy and their families live overseas and we have always enjoyed travelling to catch up with the grandchildren. I am a retired accountant but the Parish Treasurer role keeps me occupied. In my spare time, I am a keen sports follower, particularly cricket.
Michael Malthus relocated from Hanmer Springs two years ago where he served as Treasurer on the Vestry of the Church of Epiphany for 15 years. He now attends the 9am Sunday Service at St Barnabas with wife Jane. Michael’s background is business, property and local government, serving as a councillor on the Hurunui District Council for 9 years, including 6 years as deputy mayor. My focus continues to be contributing to community needs on a voluntary basis.
Nigel Yeoh, attends Lifestreams. I bring to Vestry a willingness to help; a desire to understand people’s different spiritual needs so we can all "follow Jesus and extend God's love". I have skills in the areas of I.T., digital communications, and medical knowledge. I grew up as a Catholic and "jumped ship" when I was engaged to Liz.
Selwyn Paynter attends the Lifestreams congregation with wife, Penelope. I have been a partner in an investment management business over the past 30 years, and I bring my financial skills to Vestry's Finance Committee. I enjoy home maintenance, whisky, & ‘speed’ (I held two New Zealand Jet boat speed records in the 1970s). My most enjoyable pastime is visiting 9-month-old grandson, Charlie: the best entertainment.
Wendy Kington is our People's Warden.
