A canine friend visit to AAW

Jenny Wilkens —

Daytime AAW group enjoyed a visit from Bridget, a Canine Friend therapy dog.

Bridget's owner Kathleen Stringer talked about how therapy dogs can offer comfort, stimulation and support to those in resthomes, hospitals and hospices, memory care units, prisons etc. Bridget, pictured here with Sarah Chisnall, was impeccably behaved and showed us her special green toy! Sarah also talked about her experiences with her Leonberger dog Blake in the waiting room of the oncology department at hospital. It was so interesting to hear of the sensitivity these dogs show, and the comfort they bring to those who perhaps have had treasured pets in the past. If you'd like to find out more about Canine Friends Pet Therapy, look here.

Thanks to Carol Stewart, Lyn Wright and Jenny Glasson for organising and leading interesting afternoons for AAW in the cosy Tui Room in recent months.
