Fendalton Parish Magazine April 1949
A 73-year-old parish magazine came into this office this week. Here are a few extracts from that magazine. Notice how small the trees in front of St Barnabas, in comparison with today!

VICAR'S LETTER
My dear Friends, This will be but a brief letter, but we are looking forward now to Holy Week, Easter Day, Anzac Day and the Harvest Festival and the keynote underlying them all is Life. The life of anyone is only worth anything when it is given or offered in service: that may be even so far that it looks to be the loss of it, as appeared on the first Good Friday, but that giving became fruitful by the Easter Victory showing that evil has no power over a life given for others.
The same thought comes in the proud remembrance of Anzac Day, and also on Harvest Thanksgiving, when we consider not only our own comfort that there is a bounteous supply of food here, but regard it as an opportunity of giving food for those who need it so much in England. With this idea in view, we know that we shall enter this solemn time in the right spirit and go on rejoicing and sharing in Christ's victory which is the secret for overcoming the sorrows of the world. I am, Yours sincerely, A C Purchas.
