Welcome to Rev'd Bosco and Helen Peters
...who are joining us for the next five weeks. Here they share a little of their story.
I’m delighted to come and be part of the Fendalton Parish staff team for the period that Rev’d Jenny is on sabbatical. Many of you know me from my time as curate in the parish (a little while ago now!) or other ongoing connections. For others, here’s a little about me:
I am married to Helen. I was a mathematics and science teacher before training for the priesthood at St John’s College, Auckland. After curacy at Fendalton, when Rev’d Craufurd Murray was vicar, I was a rural vicar for five years in Ellesmere.
Then I was appointed as Chaplain at Christ’s College. And I seemed to have found my particular niche: combining teaching and priesthood. I served there for quarter of a century until my retirement at the end of 2021.
Helen is a retired Kindergarten Teacher; she also has a theology degree. Our daughter, Catherine, died (aged 18) in 2009 in an accident; our son, Jonathan, works as a psychologist in Whanganui and is concluding a doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
Early in our marriage, Helen and I travelled the world for six years (“Overseas Experience” was the common phrase in those days). In our retirement we are managing quite a bit of travel. The bishop also asked me to be Priest in Charge at St Michael and All Angels in 2022, and Acting Dean in 2023. Helen and I have just returned from Europe where we walked the Camino again, I spoke at a couple of conferences, and we even visited Scandinavia – where we had not been before.
I have a passion for spirituality and the scriptures. I have a significant online presence (liturgy.co.nz & fb.com/liturgy etc). I look forward very much to meeting up with many of you again, and to getting to know others of you for the first time.
Yours in Christ
