Wonderful Celebration of Christmas Story in Nine Lessons and Carols

Mark Chamberlain —

Augmented Choir led worship last Sunday night as the great story of the gospel was re-told in readings and song.

Over 170 people gathered for one of the most popular services of the year - the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. St Barnabas Organist Denis Guyan reported;

"It was huge privilege to be able to lead these musicians, performing all of this wonderful music for Advent/Christmas. The 36-strong choir included three Rev’s (Methodist, Presbyterian, Anglican), and three PhD’s. Sue Densem’s mother (Ruth) and two children (Alex and Izzy) were in the choir."

Choir Anthems a Highlight

  • 'O Little One Sweet' – J S Bach
  • 'Above the Peaks' – words by Colin Gibson
  • 'The Holly & the Ivy' (Sans Day Carol) – flute part added by D Guyan
  • 'Shepherds Are Kneeling' – Peter Nardone
  • 'My Heart is Leaping' – words by Marion Kitchingman (NZ); music by Barry Brinson (NZ)
  • 'The Apple Tree' – Elizabeth Poston
