Spring trip to Darfield
A festival of cherry blossoms, daffodils, and lambs greeted us in Darfield.
What a glorious spring day it was on our Van Outing to Darfield on Wednesday. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom in the town of Darfield. We saw many new lambs along the way and we all enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at the Darfield Bakery & Café. I think just about everyone commented on it being the best café we have been to. Apparently, they are renowned for their pies and I did see some taking home a sneaky supply.
Rev'd Alexa Evenden met us for a coffee and chat before she took us over to show us around Holy Trinity Church. Alexa has recently taken up the position of Vicar of Malvern parish.
Holy Trinity was built in 1979 by the Anglicans, Presbyterians, and Methodists, as a cooperating parish. It is a beautiful church with some very fine carved pieces of wooden furniture. The Anglicans have their services on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays.
It has a Hobday pipe organ which was brought from Masterton in 1991. This instrument was restored and refurbished following damage caused by the 4 September 2010 earthquake.
We appreciated Alexa taking time out to show us around, we all thoroughly enjoyed the visit and trip.
The next Van Outing will be on Wednesday 18th October @ 1.30pm and will be a trip to see the Lyttelton Time Ball Station with afternoon tea in a cafe in Lyttelton. Cost is $5 per person, please book at the parish office.
