With the completion of the Maadi Cup Regatta last week the 2021/22 rowing season has officially concluded.

This season was typified by never quite knowing if each regatta or race was our last, so we simply had to approach them as if they were and hold nothing in reserve.

A five medal haul comprising of 2 Golds, 2 Silvers and a Bronze resulted in our relatively small crew of 19, coming 4th overall in points for the Regatta. Full results for the finals are listed below.

Following their success at Maadi, five rowers, Jack Dennehy Coles, Sam Earl, Matthew Glen, Luke Hickling and Sam Woodgate have been selected to trial for the U18 South Island Squad to compete at the 2022 North Island vs South Island Regatta, at Lake Karapiro. The Regatta and proceeding rowing camp will allow athletes the opportunity to view the New Zealand Junior Trials, enabling them to understand the process and the requirements for subsequent Junior Trials and allow the Junior Selection Panel the opportunity to view the athletes likely to be in contention for National Junior selection in future years.

For our two Year 13 rowers, Sam MacAfee and Neil Kamat we thank them for their contribution to St Bede’s Rowing and encourage them to maintain an interest in the sport, given their progress and the contribution they have made.

In the next few weeks we look forward to celebrating the success of the season with all of our dedicated crew, supporters and sponsors that have made this season possible. For the rowers heading to Twizel to trial for the South Island U18 squad we wish you well in your pursuit of making the squad to compete against North Island crews in Karapiro towards the end of April.
