Dr Rachael Hawkey —

Variety Concert and Secondary Schools' Orchestra Festival.

Variety Concert last evening

The Variety concert held in the PAC last evening was a fitting tribute to the very talented group of Year 13 students who have contributed to the college in many ways over the last five years. As well as organising and running the event, they also performed on stage, in the rock band, theatresports and singing items.

Also worthy of special mention were several Year 11 students who performed for the first time in a variety concert – Sam Muholland, Jacob Moylan and Zac Bates. Winton Herman (Year 12) performed two traditional Cook Island dances with great assurance and grace, and a magic act from Jacob McKendry and Lloyd Schad (Year 11) provided that extra variety that makes the evening so entertaining.

Many thanks to the staff and parents who supported the students.

Secondary Schools’ Orchestra Festival

Bede Durkin-Gorman (Year 12) and Jean-Luc Pitcaithly (Year 11) took part in a combined schools’ orchestra in a concert at The Charles Luney auditorium on Wednesday evening. Performing three numbers under conductor Ian Thorpe of the CSO, this was a great opportunity for the students to participate in a full-size orchestra playing challenging repertoire.

The skills of young people playing orchestral instruments are in danger of disappearing if not nurtured, making this all the more worthwhile and rewarding.
