Greetings from St Bede's

Mr Justin Boyle —

Seniors had their last day on Wednesday, where we focused on the departure of the Year 13s. The Leavers Breakfast, held this year at the Papanui Club, had 400 in attendance - Year 13s, their parents and extended families.

The Mass followed and nearly 1500 attended.  It was a memorable occasion.  Following the Mass the Year 13s hakaed their families and then finished proceedings with the Tie Ceremony.  Retiring President of the Old Boys, John (Arge) Smith, addressed the assembled and then asked the boys to remove their school tie, and then don their new Old Boys tie, which is donated by old boys.  This ended the day's proceedings.

On Tuesday night, the Senior Prize-giving was held at the Auroa Centre at Burnside High.  We were treated to an excellent visual presentation from the Year 13s, and to some wonderful musical items, the last being from the extremely talented duo, Connor McSweeney (violin) and Maui Brennan (piano).  These two are arguably the best musicians in a decade and they have made enormous contributions to the musical life of the College.

You will find a full list of the students who were awarded Special prizes (and photos) in the following article.

Congratulations to all those students who received a prize on Tuesday evening.

Until next week
Justin Boyle
