Choir raises the roof in Big Sing
The Bedean Choir has been chosen to perform at the South Island Cadenza of the national choral competition.
It has been quite the term for The Bedean Choir. For the past two terms, the choir has been rehearsing for the biggest high school choral competition in New Zealand, The Big Sing.
On 9 June, The Bedean Choir performed at the Christchurch Regional Festival of the Big Sing, performing three pieces, The Lord’s Prayer by David N Childs, Lunar Lullaby by Jacob Narverud, and the showstopping There is Nothing Like a Dame from the musical South Pacific. It is safe to say they were the crowd favourite, especially during the gala evening.
The Big Sing regional adjudicators then decide who to take through to the next stages. Out of the 200+ choirs in New Zealand, the adjudicators take the top 24 into the Finale and choose 36 for the regional Cadenza’s (one held in the North Island and one in the South). Our Bedean Choir is honoured to be chosen to be a part of the South Island Cadenza, being held in Timaru on 11 and 12 August.
The Bedean Choir has not only been preparing for the Big Sing, however, and was invited to perform at the Canterbury Lawyers’ Choir charity concert alongside Rangi Ruru Girl’s choir, Resolution. Our choir was singing for Canteen and raised $296.20 for the charity.
A big thank you to director Mrs Helen Charlton for all her time, wisdom and hard work.
Now onto more rehearsals in preparation for The Big Sing Cadenza.
