Parent Help is a non profit organisation supporting parents to build resilient and positive families/whānau. 

We run a free confidential parenting Helpline for parents and caregivers. The Helpline is available from 9am – 9pm, 7 days a week providing advice, support and practical strategies on any parenting challenge.

This workshop will help participants to understand anxiety in children and teens. Learn about different strategies and skills to help your young person manage anxiety/stress, and help them build resiliency.

  • Understand how anxiety works in the body and mind
  • Feel more confident to manage anxiety in your young people
  • Understand resilience and building resilience in your children/teens
  • Parenting strategies and skills to support children/teens
  • Share and discuss with other parents and build shared knowledge in a confidential setting
  • Take away resources and ideas

New Zealand vs Jordan on Thursday 29 November

We are offering a 20% discount for both children and adults tickets for school communities, to see the Tall Blacks in action. It is the first time the Tall Blacks have played in Christchurch for 14 years and we hope to welcome them back with a full stadium.

Great New Zealand Santa Run 

A 2-3km fun run/walk, in a Santa suit, that will help raise funds for Graham Dingle Foundation programmes.

Youth 3v3 Basketball Tournament - Hornby Hoops 

Community Development Network Trust and Hornby High School.

This is a fun, social, free community event aimed at engaging young people. We are running two comps; 13-15 years old and 16-19 years old.

There will be a free sausage sizzle and fruit, the Mai FM Street Team and lots of prizes.

Plunket Babysitting Course – Monday 17 December 2018

Whether you’re already babysitting the neighbours kids or your younger siblings or want some credibility when looking for a babysitting job - this day is for you! Creative HQ - Youth Accelerator for NZ Young Leaders.

For the 4th time in a row, we’re running a 4-week programme for individuals aged between 17-22. The programme is free and it’s a great opportunity to learn how to work in teams, build leadership skills and meet like-minded peers.

This year we’re bringing the programme to Wellington and, for the first time, to Queenstown. Applications are currently open for the Queenstown programme - applications are free, and they can be completed online (www.ventureup.co.nz)

Be in to WIN!

You could win a free fun day for your school at Jellie Park (pool and slide) on the 18 December by filling in a short survey around water safety and learning to swim. Each entry increases your school’s chance of winning. 

Currently only 30% of school age children participate in swimming lessons and the Christchurch City Council’s Swimsmart team are keen to understand parents and caregivers views around water safety and learning to swim.

The Biketober Christchurch Festival

The Biketober Christchurch festival is gathering momentum and dozens of events are now confirmed, with even more in the pipeline.

You are invited to take part in this month-long celebration of everything cycling. For example, there is:

  • The challenge to ride the city’s new major cycle routes.
  • A build-your-own bicycle trailer workshop.
  • A number of leisurely guided rides around the inner city.
  • The chance to win tantalising cycling prizes.
  • Plenty of events for children, families, novice riders, and experienced pedal-warriors.
  • The New Zealand Bike Expo weekend.


Outward Bound New Zealand 

Outward Bound NZ is a not-for-profit organization offering outdoor experiential learning courses to New Zealanders young and old.

Our Explorer course is offered to teens aged 14-15 years during the Sept/Oct school holidays. The course is aimed at building teen resilience in a fun and healthy environment.

From 27 October 2018 to 31 March 2019. 

Are you wanting to organise a Neighbourhood gathering this summer? Neighbourhood week is about bringing people closer together, getting to know the people who live close to you and celebrating the unique and diverse mix of each neighbourhood.
