Mr. Mark Ealey —

Won 8 Lost 5

1st XV vs Lincoln Combined High Schools won 67-7

This was a game to help us climb the ladder and put us in a position to mark a mark I the competition.

The forwards started off in a hiss and a roar, with a try in the first 10mins, which lead the foundation for the whole team to put a number of tries on the first half and give us the bonus point needed.

The plan for the team was to ensure we kept structure and be intent in our processes for the whole 70 mins, especially when the scoreline was getting high and a number of changes to the team throughout the game.

The team achieved this and overall very happy with how the team played.

The forwards have done a great job over the last few weeks, so it was great to see some outstanding tries being scored by our backs, especially out wide, by our back 3 – Outstanding skill, pace and strength showed by them.

We look forward to next week and focus for the team this week, is continue in the same direction

2nd XV vs Shirley BHS 2nd XV won 29-10

Facing Shirley at QEII this week we were quietly optimistic about finishing the first round unbeaten. This never really looked in doubt, despite being reduced to 14 men following a player being sent off at the 22 minute mark.

The grounds were in great condition allowing for some flowing rugby, with our back line taking the opportunity to use the width of the field and our runners to find the gaps. Our control of the ball had improved significantly from last week, and with a few lucky bounces going our way this allowed us to dominate both possession and territory for most of the game.

Tries: Amby Pulega 1, Charlie Stenberg 1, Lorenzo Lelli 1, Suliasi Fava. 2, Conversions: Charlie Stenberg 1, Matt Boyle 1

Thanks to Plumbing World, and Brett Cochrane (Pictured) for the great tops for our Player of the Day Harrison Bruhns-Croy.

3rd XV vs Shirley BHS 3rd XV won 43-12

After a good week of practice the team fronted well and were well motivated for the challenge ahead. A very quick start saw the team gain early dominance over Shirley with the tries coming relatively easily. A slack period on defence and some easy missed tackles let Shirley score just before the break. The second half continued as in the first with the team dominating across the park and only small errors in defence letting the opposition get into our half. Turnovers and a couple of rash decisions lead to the opposition having a solid period on attack but once composure had been returned to our team we were able to regain the initiative. There were some very positive signs from the team that they were able to control and dictate the flow of the game when we wanted too. A solid forward effort negated the often very interesting ref calls and with this solid platform the backs were able to run freely and we were able to score 7 good team tries.

U16A vs Christchurch BHS U15A won 29-15

We played CBHS U15A at Straven Rd . It was a good match that we ground out a solid 29-15 victory.

As a team we can take a lot of learnings from this match, it will help us build as the business end of the season rolls around. The team is starting to play to a pattern with different shapes and maps , we will take a while to perfect and still need to remember important to be direct to create momentum and play what is in front of you and learn/adapt from the way your opposition is playing and the way the game is being controlled. Good win gentlemen, we need to go back to work during the week to fine tune our skills and talk about and learn from our game and better ourselves for the next game ahead . Remember the RICE theory for those who took a few knocks. Thanks to our supporters again this week.

U15A vs Shirley BHS U15A lost 22-36

On Saturday morning we played Shirley Boys' High School U15. We arrived at the field ready and excited for the game ahead. Kick off had come and the first ten minutes from us were outstanding. Darryl Harris (prop) had an amazing game with his storming runs and looking for space. We stuck to the game plan and moved the ball well. Everyone was where they needed to be, we got off to a great start.

In the second half our discipline slipped and the penalty count started to creep up. Two yellow cards put us under real pressure and Shirley made the most of it by scoring a couple of good tries.

The boys stuck in there until the end and gave it their all. It was an unfortunate loss, but we will learn from both positive and negatives as we build toward next week. Thank you to our supporters who came and watched the game. We all love your support.

U15B vs STC U15 Red lost 17-31

Hard work and a second half revival were not enough to beat St Thomas when St Bede's U15B lost 31-17 at their home ground on Saturday.

St Thomas pounced in the opening minute of the game to score before St Bede's could settle into their game. This was followed by a flurry of short stabs mid-way through the half for St Thomas to score two further tries and lead 17-nil at the half-time break.

Hitting their tackles in the second half, St Bede's started to look likely. Lorenzo Fasi displayed his speed to score two tries in quick succession for St Bede's following a prolonged series of counter attacks.

There was renewed vigour in the forwards with prop Max Lonsdale-Hope and lock Sam McAfee providing a solid platform for the St Bede's resurgence. They came close to scoring on several occasions but the effort was not quite determined enough to turn into points.

A try by loose forward Tom Lewis in the final minute was a fitting reward for his efforts on the day while Will Pattinson scored the other St Bede's points with a conversion.

U63kgs Red vs Christchurch BHS U63kgs lost 17-27

The first half was a particularly tough watch for the side line as we made lost of little silly errors that turned out to cost us dearly.I think we would have maybe had the ball for all of 5 minutes in the whole of the 1st half. Dropped passes, missed touch from penalties and isolating ourselves proved to be costly and we went into the half 15 nil down. At half time we talked about trusting ourselves and our systems and having pride in our home field and what it means to play rugby as a Bedean, never give up and fight till the end no matter what the score is.

The boys responded and although they scored twice before we were able to cross the line, we made them work a lot harder for their tries, and then we found ourselves and finished with 3 team tries that 2 were finished by Dylan Butler and 1 by Fraser Brown. This loss made it 3 losses in a row, so the boys are hurting and hopefully they can start next week like we finished.

U63kgs Black vs Christ's College U63kgs won 73-5

Hopes were high for St Bedes this week given the opposition could only just make the 15 players and we had plenty of reserves. This team playing for school, each other and the shield had them take the field with tails in the air. Spurred on by our great coaches of Luke and Sam, calling out individual players names from the sideline wgith words of encouragement, and great advice. Words obviously heard by Finn O'Donnell who dotted down in the 4th minute to set the scene for the day. Seth Matheson was in dominant form again scoring in the 14th minute. then on his way to score another and lost the ball over the line. Committed as he was, the head knock would not have helped and was off to the hospital with concussion. Boys carried on with a dominant showing of speed and great running to end the day 73 - 5 winners. After a few weeks of big forwards taking the POD, one of the pretty backs finally had their turn, and it went to Cam Howison with great chip kicks and accurate kicking. Others who enjoyed the try fest were - Logan Clarke (2), Joey Fitzgerald, Connor Stewart (2), Connor Crosbie (2), Joshua Shaw (2). Shield stays at home where it belongs!!! Hooraa

U14A vs StAC U14 won 44-0

MAH03488 ealeym

A good win for the U14A team beating STAC 44-0. Finally a home game and lots of supporters on the sidelines. A great try from Oliver Monks on the wing started us well and was one of several plays that was the result of good backline passing. There were some storming runs from Heinrich Muller and Noah Barrett in the second half which illustrated what we can do. Daniel Parker showed everyone how to tackle and others followed suit. Still things to work on but we are going in the right direction and the boys deserve a pat on the back for that game. Thanks to George Gunn and Josh Borcoskie for running the touch line for us.

U14B vs Cashmere HS U14 lost 17-20

The Stags played Cashmere HS in windy conditions at Cashmere.
Cashmere HS played with the wind and went up by two tries midway through the first half and the stags replied with a well taken try by Logan Hammond. A try by Solomon Spanton meant the Stags trailed by 3 at the break and were confident that they could finish the job playing with fresh players and the wind in the second half.
The second half was a tight affair with the bulk of the play in the middle of the field. Cashmere scored a try to extend their lead but with 6 minutes to go Logan Hammond scored his second try and the stags trailed by 3. They put pressure on chs but were unable to score the winning try. The final score was 20-17 to Cashmere.
Sol Spanton, Matthew Brown (pod) and Oliver Wheeler (second half) stood out in the forwards, and Logan Hammond and Zac Pattinson had strong games in the backs.

U58kgs Red vs Christ's College U58kgs won 67-0

The team were given the privilege this week to play against Christ's on their Upper Ground. This has to be one of the most historic and beautiful paddocks in the country and the occasion was celebrated with a 67-0 win. The team started slowly with a number of opportunities going begging but soon got into their stride and finished strong. CC were a little short on the bench and we were able to help out with some replacements. Our boys showed some great sportsmanship. Great games from Max and Matthew. Player of the day was Louie Hall.

U58kgs Black vs Burnside RFC U58kgs won 38-15

This fixture was definitely a game of two halves with Burnside putting on a dominant first half performance with strong ball carrying and clinical ruck work. They entered the half time break with a slight lead but our lads turned it on the second utilising fast wide attacking rugby and blew away the opposition. Notable performances come from Caleb and Danny with their great offensive games and Flynn for his staunch defence.
