Information and updates

ZONTA SECONDARY SCHOOL SPORTS AWARDS

It was a pleasure to attend the Zonta Secondary School Sports Awards last night, the talent of Secondary School athletes in Canterbury is just mind blowing, Junior Olympiams, Junior World Champions, and Commonwealth Games Representatives, were among the finalists.

We were very proud to have Tyler Mounty, for Softball and Football, and Andres Hernandez, for Athletics make the final cut.

Tyler had a very tough category which saw Sam Darry from Christ's College take out the category, Sam won Maadi Cup and is a member of New Zealand Secondary School Rugby Team.

Andres was highly commended in Category 4 which is the most outstanding individual achievement. By receiving highly commended meant that he was runner-up which is an outstanding achievement for Andres who has done the following:

  • Andres was selected in the NZ Secondary Schools Cross-country Team where they raced at the Gold Coast - he finished 11th and was the 2nd New Zealander home.
  • He then went to Paris to compete in the World Schools' Cross-country where he finished 5th in his age group (he still has another two years in that age group!)
  • Andres has just been selected and named captain of the NZ Secondary Schools Athletic Track and Field Team which will see him travel to Cairns (Australia) in December.
