A rich history to be protected...

The Archives Committee continue to work toward establishing a strong bank of historical information about St Bede’s College, including tangible objects, photographs, publications and facts. Emily Rosevear, our part-time Archivist whose role is partly funded by the Old Boys’ Association, has been working on cataloguing all the material held by the school to provide better records of what we hold, where its kept and ensuring everything is well preserved for the future.

Supporting Emily is a Committee which consists of Justin Boyle (SBC Rector), Fr Allan Jones SM (SBC Priest), Triona Doocey (Archivist - Catholic Diocese of Christchurch), Clare Wilkinson (SBC Community Liaison Development Director) and Matt Malone (SBC RE & Theology Teacher and Catholic Community of Learning Leader).

The current focus for the committee is continuing to work towards having a dedicated archives space to appropriately store school records and historic objects. Until we have that space we are not in a position to take many donations of items, from the St Bede's community, however information and digital records are always welcome.

In our search for information, we have plans to begin an Oral History project to document the history of St Bede's through our Old Boys. The project will involve interviewing Old Boys about their time and experiences at St Bede’s, with the interviews being recorded and transcribed for use in the Archives. The interviews will be used to show how the experiences of Bedean’s have changed (or remained the same) throughout the school’s history. We are keen to hear from a range of past students and staff; however, we will begin the project by interviewing some of our Oldest Old Boys and documenting their experiences.
