IRP Old Boy has his say...

Mr Mark Ealey —

Shunsuke Nunomaki, Japan (eighth intake 2010).

“My name is Shunsuke Nunomaki. I play for the Panasonic Wild Knights. When I was in my last year of high school I went on a study abroad experience to St. Bede’s College.

I played there for just one season, but the impact that experience had on my rugby was significant. I sincerely believe that my becoming a Japanese national team player was due to my experience in New Zealand.

I learned many things that I hadn’t yet become aware of in Japan – that playing rugby is fun, that basic skills are really important and that an ability to communicate is crucial. My time away from Japan also reminded me of many of the good things about my home country. I really hope that many young Japanese players go to New Zealand and then come back to Japan to contribute to Japanese rugby. Please challenge yourself in the IRP!”
