Greetings from St Bede's

Mr Justin Boyle —

In the midst of final preparations for CanTeen, Entrance Weekend for the new intake and Honour Pockets Assembly, look what has arisen from the foundations! (See photos)

So for the first time we get a clear impression of the new chapel’s dimensions. Certainly it will make a statement coming up the driveway, and be a most prominent feature looking into the quad.

The fund-raising campaign continues and while $600,000 has already been raised, the target is to reach $1,000,000 by the end of the year.

Please see the link below to our Chapel Appeal and information on how to donate.

This time next week our CanTeen runners will be completing their second morning and facing the reality of what they have embarked upon! So during the coming week, we are in full preparation for that event and the CanTeen Home Day on Friday.

At assembly, we acknowledged those boys who not only have achieved very well in their sport, but have brought honour to the College by doing so. My comments follow…

“This is a message I have given before but I will reiterate – keep in mind how the awarding of an Honour Pocket actually occurs. Your team-mates, your coaches and managers, and your parents have all helped to get you here and to be awarded this Pocket today. In a sense they have given you that opportunity, so be grateful and proud of your achievements and wear that Pocket honourably, not only in your chosen activity but also in your general demeanour round the College and out of the gate.

You now have an extra responsibility in also being an excellent ambassador for the sport or cultural activity you have brought honour to and achieved so well in. You also do that by giving back; whether it’s in a coaching or mentoring role or refereeing, or whether it’s taking an interest in those young boys who aspire to achieve to your level too.

Well done to all of you who walk the stage today for your Honour Pockets.”

Matt Rough’s Funeral

My thanks to the College Community for your understanding and your support to allow normal classes to be suspended last Friday, so that many staff could attend the funeral of a much loved and respected colleague.

Matt worked at St Bede’s from 2003 – 2016, and was also an Old Boy. Throughout his whole life he was inflicted with many health problems, which he finally succumbed to at the age of 40. Rest in peace Matt.

Until next time
Justin Boyle
