Hard work pays off for Nio Verhoeven (2023-2024)

Kathryn Eagle —

Huge congratulations to Nio on signing an extended and upgraded contract with the Brisbane Broncos!

Nio first caught the attention of talent scouts while representing St Bede’s at the Condor Sevens tournament last year. Hailing from the West Coast and of proud Tongan and Dutch heritage, he is a gifted multi-sport athlete with a relentless work ethic. His talent earned him an invitation to train with the Broncos Senior Academy, which led to a standout performance against the North Queensland Cowboys U17 Academy team.

After signing with the Broncos for two years from 2025, Nio has continued to impress. His dedication during the preseason with the Broncos Academy, coupled with strong performances in the Mal Meninga Cup for the Burleigh Bears, has now secured him an upgraded contract. This new deal will see him train with the NRL squad for most of 2026 before stepping into a full-time contract for the 2027-2028 seasons.

We are incredibly proud of Nio’s achievements and look forward to following his journey in the years ahead. Well done, Nio!
