Johnston leads the way in academic excellence
The St Bede's senior prizegiving, held on Wednesday, 30 October, acknowledged students gaining Excellence and Merit prizes, as well as celebrating students who were first in class and those who received tertiary scholarships.
There were also a number of Special Prizes awarded, which recognised the talents and contribution that a variety of senior students made to the college during their time at St Bede’s. The recipients of the Special Prizes for 2024 were:
Year 11 Board of Honour Prize: Hanz Lopez
Year 12 Board of Honour Prize: Conor Tecofsky
The MM and JJ Kavanagh Memorial Prize for Oratory: Simon Curnow

Father Gerard Mills Scholarship for a Year 12 student who has contributed to and provided leadership in the cultural life of the college:

The Sir Walter Clifford Cup for Debating: Liam Speechlay
The Instrumental Music Award: Dan Pega
The George Fulguirinas Cup for a student who has overcome challenges when faced with adversity: Josh Tecofsky
The PTA award for an outstanding role model in the Learning Support Department: Taniela Talanoa
The Vernon Griffiths Award for Singing: Heinrich Muller and Simon Curnow
There are also a number of Premier awards. These recognise those students who have distinguished themselves throughout the year - for their consistent service to the college, their contribution to the special character of St Bede’s, or their outstanding academic achievement.
These young men are truly being “the best possible version of themselves”.

Blue Riband: The Ignatius O'Boyle Cup for the best and most generous use of talent in all aspects of school life: Heinrich Muller
The JC Colin Trophy for Catholic Special Character: Troy Cutbush
The Carl Sweeney Memorial Trophy for best and most generous use of personal talent: Simon Curnow
The Clayton Cosgrove Cup for a student who has committed himself to serving others and, in doing so, leading: Thomas Stewart
The Cup for Proxime Accessit: Callum Creagh
Dux of the College: Connor Johnston
This year's Dux, Connor Johnston, received Excellence awards in Economics, Religious Education and Physics. He was first in subject for Economics, Physics and Statistics and, at time of writing, has achieved 72 Level 3 Excellence credits. He has gained a Leaders of Tomorrow Entrance Scholarship to the University of Otago and was the 2024 Pathways Prefect.
