Greetings from St Bede's

Mr Justin Boyle —

The week finished with a junior conferencing for the boys and their parents.

We are sending out the results of their exams in the next week, but feel that face to face conversations with parents may be of more benefit than written comments. Being the father of a year 10 boy gave me the opportunity to judge for myself and I found that the brief conversations with each teacher covered not only progress this year, but it also gave us an opportunity to talk about next steps going forward. It was this aspect of the interview, that as a parent, I found to be most valuable. What do you think? At a later date we will survey you about reports and parent teacher meetings and we appreciate your feedback.

We celebrated the deeds of our junior water polo team who won the South Island junior tournament in Christchurch last weekend.

Congratulations to Charlie Morrison who was runner up in the junior school sport tennis championship final.

Year 10 Economics finished their semester in the sunshine of the quad with Market day yesterday.

Twelve groups worked tirelessly through the semester creating business and operational plans which included items such as customer surveys, market segmentation and analysis of pricing strategies.

Students sold items such as Potato Tornados, BLT Sandwiches and successfully ran various Carnival games.

Profit earned by groups ranged from $2-$150. 50% of profit earned by groups was donated to Canteen.  Year 10 Economic students donated a total of $700 dollars over the year to Canteen.

Market Day further reinforced curriculum topics as well as giving boys a taste of Economics in real life.

Until next time

Justin Boyle, Rector
