NZ Bully Free Week May 17 - 24

Diarmuid McMahon —

Throughout the week there will be a focus on anti-bullying through Mana Tāne and the launch of the Anti-Bullying Messaging /Text Service, 027 252 3063.

Students can text to make an appointment with the Counsellors or report bullying.

  • Students need to give their name if they would like a member of the Centre of Wellbeing Team to get in touch about an appointment.
  • Students would need to supply the name of the person they believe could be being bullied/getting a hard time. This information will be passed to their Head of Year who will assist.

Educating the students around the use of this number/service will be important and ongoing.

The week will culminate with the nationwide Pink Shirt Day which is supported by the Mental Health Foundation. This initiative promotes good mental health and wellbeing, anti-bullying and diversity.

On Friday 21 May students have the option of wearing a pink shirt, tie or socks with their uniform and bringing a gold coin donation. All donations directly support the Mental Health Foundation and Pink Shirt Day Kaupapa, allowing them to continue to provide bullying prevention resources that create more inclusive schools and environments. Donations will be collected at the beginning of Mana Tāne time on that Friday.
