Heat is on! MTC students' projects underway

Jim Harris —

A sneak peek into the Materials Technology workshop.

Over the past year we have been adding capacity to the Welding Bays.

Here are a few of the images showing Year 13 students plasma cutting components for their squat rack ‘J cups’ and tread plate for footrests on their motorised esky.

Thanks must go out to Bede Cunningham at Dennis Cunningham BOC Ltd for his service in the purchase of Fume Extraction units and welding equipment.

Currently, the department is scoping the installation of our new CAD/CAM robot plasma cutter, which will add immense potential for students’ higher achievement in their valuable Level 3 NCEA submissions. This capability will be accessible to other senior year levels also.

Other projects include a solar powered Farm Gate Signage, a jet ski trailer overhead rack system, table tennis practice ball machine, squat racks, outdoor entertainment areas, local community park picnic table setting, roll cage addition/go-cart renovation, and more. We look forward to showing you developments throughout Term 2.
