McMillan, Templeton take first Karting honours
Year 9 student Levi McMillan and fellow teammate Year 12 student Mac Templeton competed at the Kartsport New Zealand National Schools' Karting Championships in Nelson during the last school holidays.
Mac raced in the rotax light class, qualifying on pole and finishing first in all his heats. An unlucky penalty given against him dropped him to a second place start for the finals. Mac got tangled up in an incident at the start of the final and dropped back to gain six places and finish fifth in the final.
Levi raced in the rotax junior, qualifying second with first, second and third placings in the heats, which put him in second place on the grid for both the prefinal and the final races. Levi finished a comfortable second in the final.
Enough points were gained with two top placings for St Bede's to win the overall national schools' team trophy for the first time. Well done Levi and Mac, a first Karting trophy win for St Bede's College.
