Mr Justin Boyle —

Greetings from St Bede’s College

Yesterday we were privileged to have our new national Icon, Ho Hāta Maria, te Matua Wahine o te Atua - Holy Mary, Mother of God, at the College. This is a beautiful piece of artwork commissioned by the Catholic Bishops of New Zealand to celebrate the rededication of New Zealand to Mary, Assumed into Heaven. It is a national shrine and has been consecrated in chrism oil, just as our Chapel was when it was opened. The Icon is on a pilgrimage around New Zealand called Te Ara a Maria – Mary’s Way.

Today we said farewell to our Year 13 students with a Leavers’ Mass and Special Awards ceremony in the Chapel, which we live-streamed to parents. It was a pleasure to have Fr Mark Walls as the celebrant to the Mass and his homily as usual was most poignant. We also presented the boys with their Crucifixes and Old Boy’s Tie, both of which were blessed by Fr Walls. The boys entered the Chapel as St Bede’s students for the last time and left as the newest Old Boys of the school.

Following the Year 13 Mass we celebrated Benediction with our Year 12 students which concluded with the announcement of Head Boy 2022.

We are proud to announce Head Boy for 2022, Jared Talanoa.

In our next newsletter, we will look forward to sharing photos and details of the Leavers' Mass and Special Awards Ceremony with you.

Until next week,
