Mr Justin Boyle —

Greetings from St Bede’s,

We finish the 9th week of the term in good spirits and proud of our efforts in raising in excess of $60k for the organisation CanTeen, which drew some media attention this morning, showcasing the College and our boys in good light.

The Year 13 Leaders are to be commended especially in a year where many events had to be either curtailed, pared back or cancelled. The 5-day Run for a Life was cancelled, but the next best was this excellent initiative, which has inspired a good number of the boys to have their hair shaved off.

It's important we keep the reason why we are involved in this to the forefront of our minds. The association with CanTeen was initially sought to show our boys one way to live our motto - fide et opere - by faith and by works. More particularly, faith is dead without the action to back it up.

The other key message we endeavour to instill is that we don't fundraise for our edification as a College; we keep all the time in our minds the people less fortunate (those suffering from cancer). In so doing, we are giving the boys a message that we want them to take into the next stage of their lives.

Until next week,

J.G. Boyle
