In Review: ANZAC memorial

Rachel Pitcaithly —

On Monday, May 1, we gathered as a College to lay our ANZAC crosses.

The opening words from the ceremony explained the significance:

We gather together today to honour and remember the St Bede’s College Old Boys who lost their lives in WWI and WW2. We pray also for those Bedeans who returned home from war, whose lives were changed forever. We do so not to glorify war, but to remember the young men who walked the same paths that we walk, who studied in the classrooms we study in, who played on the same playing fields that we do, who gathered together as a school to pray – as we do. We honour their memory, their bravery and their sacrifice.
Tribute: Fifty-one white crosses were carefully placed by students. — Image by: Nathan Hoare
