Snowsports Team
South Island Secondary School Ski and Snowboard Champs
The Snowsports team travelled to Wanaka last weekend to compete in the South Island Secondary School Ski and Snowboard Champs. The competition is split into two disciplines: Giant Slalom and Slopestyle. Giant Slalom is a timed race around gates and the Slopestyle is a judged run over 3 jumps.
After a few days of good training the boys came away with some excellent results. In particular the snowboard team of Jonty Dodd, Ollie Mann, Harison Staples and Dom Morgan did very well coming away with team Gold medals in both disciplines. Individual medals went to Jonty Dodd with Sliver in Giant Slalom and Bronze in Slopestyle and Ollie Mann with Bronze in Giant Slalom. Harison Staples also performed well getting 4th in the Giant Slalom and 5th in the Slopestyle. For the ski team, Finn Parkyn completed a good run coming away with a Bronze medal in the Slopestyle, with Conal Lynch finishing 4th just outside the medals. Connor Carroll was our best skier in the Giant Slalom finishing 8th which is the highest a skier from St Bede's has placed in the Giant Slalom at the South Island champs.
A big thanks to all the sponsors listed below who supported us at our fundraising Quiz night which made the trip possible.
