Students cook dinner at Ronald McDonald House.

The five Year 9 students from BHKY tutor group, together with Dr Hawkey, had the privilege several weeks ago of cooking dinner for the 45 or so residents at Ronald McDonald House in Cashel Street. This is done most week nights by a different work place or service group, and with the responsibility of arranging the menu and buying ingredients, it is no small task.

Arriving at 4pm, the pressure was on to get dinner prepared and cooked by 6.15pm but the boys worked steadily, chopping, preparing salads and making dessert (the favourite task!) and we had everything ready on time.

The residents greatly appreciated the mince and cheese pasta dish with garlic bread and salad followed by ambrosia for dessert.

Before the meal, musical entertainment was provided by Jean-Luc Pitcaithly (also in BHKY) accompanied by his brother and old boy Samuel and Jonathan Boyle who sang and played guitar.

It was great experience for the students and gave them an opportunity to serve others in a very practical way.
