Double the Pride: Two OBs named in Black Sox squad
What is better than one St Bede's Old Boy in the Black Sox? Two of course!
This week, we proudly celebrate the selection of Liam Potts (2017–2021) and Bailey Hamilton (2010–2014) in the 17-strong Black Sox squad heading to the Canberra Skins Tournament at the end of November.
This exciting opportunity will see Liam and Bailey competing against Australia’s top players in a challenging competition format. The team was chosen to foster competition within the wider Black Sox squad and to allow players to make their case for selection for the 2025 WBSC World Cup in Prince Albert, Canada.
Bailey is among six players making their debut with the Black Sox after progressing through the national pathway system. His selection marks a special milestone as he represents his whānau and the New Zealand Black Sox on the international stage.
This year, Liam was also awarded the 'Men’s Pitcher of the Year Award' by Softball New Zealand. Of his season, Softball New Zealand said:
"Liam has had an outstanding season on the mound, at both Club level and regionally. With his dedication and hard work, Liam has been the standout pitcher in New Zealand, mainly for his club team (Parklands Christchurch United) and the Canterbury Red Sox, where he showed dominance and perseverance at this year’s National Fastpitch Championships. His ability to seek out advice on what areas where he can improve, along with his dedication to better himself, will see this young man grow".
Congratulations and good luck, Liam and Bailey! We are incredibly proud of your achievements.
