Super Touch

David Litten —

The top Secondary School Touch Competition in Christchurch is run by Touch Canterbury with games being played after school on Wednesdays at Upper Hagley. The Competition is called Super Touch. On Wednesday the 16th of November our team played in the final against Christchurch Boy’s High. They had beaten us in round robin play so the team was expecting a hard-fought battle. At half time the score was locked up at 4 apiece. As the second half progressed, our boys crept ahead. The final score was 8-7 to St Bede’s making them the Canterbury Super Touch Champions.

The team is off to the National Secondary Schools Touch Competition in Rotorua on the weekend starting December 10th.

The team would like to express its sincere gratitude to its two sponsors: Shaw Civil Contracting Ltd and McLean Drilling

It should be noted that there are only 3 year 13s in the team so the next few years could be a purple patch for St Bede’s top touch team.

As another side note, five of the above team also played for the St Bede’s Canterbury Sevens Rugby Championship winning team and the 1st XV which was the top performing team in the Canterbury Region.

They are Riley Lucas, Jamayne Feast, Ben Trillo, Andre Sula and Christian Ioane.
