Squash team wins Canterbury champs

Mark Ling —

The St Bede's A team surprised everyone by winning the Canterbury Secondary Schools' Teams event, defeating top-seeded Christchurch Boys' High in the final.

The team, consisting of Benjamin Robb, Zach Lewis, and Ashton Fisher, entered as the third seed and beat both second and first seeds.

The B team also performed well, qualifying for the top division.

The C team competed in the second division, with some players securing their first wins for St Bede's.

At the South Island championships in Dunedin, the St Bede's A team won the bronze medal, narrowly losing to Christchurch Boys' High but defeating Mt Aspiring. The B team also competed strongly.

The nationals are in Wellington in the first week of August, and this time it's five a side. The A team features Benjamin Robb, Ashton Fisher, Zach Lewis, Ben Ling and Bryn Fisher. We are also sending a B team to this event to help grow the depth.

In exciting news, Benjamin Robb, Ashton Fisher, Zach Lewis, and Ben Ling have been selected for a Canterbury Development Squad to tour Malaysia in June 2025.
