Greetings form St Bede’s

Justin Boyle —

We have had a number of teams away at tournament this week, so there were noticeably fewer people at the College and we will have a comprehensive report for you next week with the results. Today, we also have boys out on Industry day, an important day, especially for our seniors, who can gain an understanding of a career that they are thinking of for the future.

Last week we hosted over 250 people from 30 catholic schools in the diocese to a hui that featured key note speeches from the new Bishop, Michael Gielen. He was joined by Fr Mark Walls SM and a team from the Waimakariri parish, led by their Pastor Fr John Adams. The conference dealt with the issue of Evangelization and Mission in School Parish communities and finding pathways and opportunities within our Catholic school and communities for young people to have increased opportunities to encounter Christ. One of the highlights at the end of the day was an informal function that featured Bishop Michael being interviewed by 2 students, who asked questions of the Bishop that revealed his enthusiasm for life in general, but also gave him an opportunity for the many assembled to get to know him as a person. The session was well received.

We are now over half way through the term and we continue to monitor standards both in the learning environment and the standards of boys and their uniforms. Could we please continue to work together to ensure the boys are well presented for school and take pride in their appearance.

Until next week
