Chapel welcomes exquisite addition
A tribute to St Joseph.
The serene ambiance of the St. Bede's College Chapel has been further enhanced with the introduction of a striking new statue of St. Joseph. If you haven't had the chance to see it yet, be sure to visit the Chapel during your next school visit, and take a moment to admire the exquisite craftsmanship of this beautiful addition.
Generously donated by old boy and Foundation Chair Rob Farrell (1990-1994) and his wife Nicola, the statue of St. Joseph stands as a testament to their enduring connection with St Bede's and the Chapel. Having been involved in the original fund raising campaign for the Chapel of St Bede, Rob said his experience of donating was overwhelmingly positive and seeing the need for a statue of St Joseph in the Chapel presented another opportunity to receive the grace which comes in the act of giving. "Nicola and I hold our Catholic faith central to everything we are and everything we do. Catholic education is important and the Chapel is the most important building in any school." he emphasized, reflecting the significance of contributing to its sanctity.
The decision to donate the statue in honor of Rob's late father, Eugene Farrell (1957-1959), holds a poignant significance. Echoing the values of St. Joseph, who exemplified unwavering faith and family devotion, this commemorative gesture serves as a touching tribute to his enduring legacy. Unfortunately he died far too young but like St Joseph he lived a life where faith and family came first.
Restoring the statue was entrusted to the skilled hands of master artist Damian Walker, who meticulously crafted the intricate details of St. Joseph. Rob has worked with Damian on other projects and seeing the need he reached out to him with the challenge of finding a suitable St Joseph to compliment the beautiful statue of Our Lady and child. Rob's collaboration with Damian proved instrumental in locating a suitable representation of St. Joseph in the UK of all places. The journey to get to this point spanned various challenges and amusing anecdotes.
Upon witnessing the statue's installation in the Chapel of St. Bede, Rob expressed his profound awe and appreciation. "I popped in last week and was honestly blown away. He is beautiful and is very much fitting for such a sacred space," Rob shared, encapsulating the sentiment shared by many within the St. Bede's community.
The addition of this stunning statue not only adds to the Chapel's aesthetic appeal but also enriches the spiritual experience for all those who seek solace and inspiration within its walls. As St. Joseph stands as a symbol of faith and familial devotion, his presence within the Chapel is a reminder of the enduring values that lie at the heart of St. Bede's College.
