Chrissie Walker —

What do basketball, survival skills and horror have in common? They are among the most popular reads at the St Bede's library.

Our focus on building up the library collection with high interest items on a range of subjects continues. The most popular items this year have been the new range of short, easy-to-read sports biographies, with basketball books still the most borrowed items.

In terms of fiction, manga is growing in popularity, and thrillers, survival skills stories, horror, humour, and war are always popular. We also have our ebook platform available, which offers the option of having the book read aloud.

Our book club membership is consistently growing, and now we have a lovely group of students who are passionate about their reading. We meet up once or twice a term to discuss books we have been reading, and we are always keen for new members. The colder weather has resulted in a bunch of students playing chess in the library regularly, but don’t forget we also have a range of other board games available for use too.

Please find attached a selection of some of the recent books that have been added to the school library, along with a short blurb and recommended reading age for each.
