Kickstarting careers through Gateway
So far this year, we’ve had 25 students out in the workplace getting experience in building, electrical, plumbing, groundskeeping, equine, automotive engineering, and civil construction.
Through the Gateway programme, senior students have the opportunity to work with an employer one to two days per week while doing industry training to kickstart their career and gain NCEA credits.
2025 is definitely the year of the budding electrician, with a third of our Gateway students working in the industry.
Feedback from employers has been extremely positive and we’re proud of the mahi the boys have been putting in. Workdays typically involve a 7.30am start, long hours, and keeping up with school and sports commitments around this.
A Term 1 highlight was First Aid training, with a lot of enthusiasm displayed by the boys in bandaging up their mates and acting out group scenarios - showing it is possible to have fun while learning valuable work-life skills.
A huge thank you to all of the amazing employers who have given our young men the opportunity to learn from you - we couldn’t do it without you.
