Sports Update

Mrs Clare Kissick —

Please keep encouraging your son to get outside for some physical activities, even if it is just a good twenty minute walk around the block. Most sports have some really good YouTube videos to watch and maybe put into action:

Reading through the information that School Sport NZ has sent out, there will not be any contact sport until we are in Alert Level 1 but they are looking at trying to get some options included at Alert Level 2. The information to hand is that most national tournaments will not take place, and sport that is played will be more region based.

St Bede’s College Hockey 2020 Update

We are now waiting with anticipation for further advice from the Government and Sport New Zealand about what Alert Level 2 may look like for organised sport.

Hockey NZ are taking an important advocacy role in working to ensure that play, recreation and organised sport gets up and running again. However it is important to acknowledge, that this role is only one of advocacy, and any decisions about what sport will look like at each alert level, remains with the Ministry of Health and not with sport.

Canterbury Hockey have been communicating with schools and clubs and are very aware that the hockey season may look different and are thinking deeply about how this may impact players, clubs and schools.

We had planned to have our hockey trials in early April – obviously this was not possible and these will be rescheduled as soon as it is possible. It is important that we know how many boys are interested in playing hockey this season so that we can plan and make the transition into trials, practices and games as smooth as possible.

If you son is interested in playing hockey for St Bede’s College this year,  please follow the link below to complete the registration form if you haven't already done so:
