Old Boys Return to the College

Rachel Pitcaithly —

Old Boys Rahul George (Head boy 2013) and Jack Boyle ( his Deputy) recently returned to the College to talk to our Year 10s

Both have had busy and varied lives since leaving St Bede’s and shared their stories. A central theme was about their faith – how important faith is to them, how their faith life was developed at school and how it is still a big part of both their lives.

Rahul is now a qualified lawyer working for a criminal barrister here in Christchurch. He spent many years working with the Young Marists after leaving school, helping to facilitate programmes such as Young Marist Neighbours and Marist Youth Leader. A talented musician he also spent time in Wellington writing and recording songs. Jack also began studying law but has moved to a degree in Psychology. His study has run parallel to his cricket career which has seen him play for New Zealand A and the Canterbury team. His cricket talent has also enabled him to travel to Sri Lanka with the Willows team and three stints playing in England. Like Rahul, he too has done some work with the Young Marists.

Opportunities to have Old Boys in to speak with current pupils is priceless. Both told the boys about their experiences at the College and relayed that their time at school had set them up for life and also produced life long friendships.
