Weather a dampener on football season

Peter Curnow —

The football season is more than halfway through, and teams are meeting with a mixture of successes.

The biggest issue has been the ability to train and play given the atrocious weather the city has had over the past six to eight weeks.

As we head into the last seven to eight weeks of competition, we are looking toward next year and how we can make it better.

As part of that we are holding a Quiz Night which, unlike the FIFA Women’s World Cup of Football, has sold out. However, you can still contribute as we are on the lookout for prizes that can be used for raffles or silent auctions on the night.

If you or your workplace have anything that might fit that bill, please email football club chair Peter Curnow at stacypeter@xtra.co.nz. The quiz night raises funds for playing kits, footballs, goal nets, and subscriptions for players who may otherwise not be able to play for economic reasons. Anything you want to donate will be put to good use.

All the teams are playing some quality, entertaining football, so if you find yourself at a loose end on a Saturday morning, come down and have a look. The weekly draw is published to the club's Facebook page, St Bede's Football.

See you on the sidelines.
