Join Us for the Awa Run: A Journey of Heart and Purpose

Clare Wilkinson - October 22, 2024

Every year, an inspiring event unfolds along the stunning Whanganui Awa: the Awa Run, a three-day, 105 km relay that brings together students from Marist schools across our network.

This year, we are thrilled to have five Year 10 students and one Year 12 student representing St Bede’s College, taking on the challenge of running a collective 50 km over three days, in 5 km stages.

But the Awa Run is about more than just the kilometres. As our boys pound the river roads, they will immerse themselves in Te Ao Māori, explore themes of social justice, and develop their leadership skills. This experience nurtures not only their physical stamina but also their understanding of the world around them—an essential part of their Marist education.

The significance of this event extends even further: our students will be raising funds for ‘Next Door,’ an initiative dedicated to reducing educational inequality in Aotearoa, spearheaded by the Young Neighbours Charitable Trust. By participating in this run, our boys will contribute to a cause that aims to uplift and support communities in need.

To achieve our ambitious goal of raising at least $20,000 for ‘Next Door,’ we need your support. Our boys will engage in various fundraising activities, including car washes, raffles, and mufti days. Additionally, they will have the chance to seek individual sponsorship for each kilometre they run. Every little bit helps, and your contributions can make a significant impact.

We invite you to visit our Give A Little page here to support our boys in their fundraising efforts. Your donations are not only tax-deductible, but they also reinforce the values of special character education that we cherish and uphold within our Marist community.

This is a wonderful opportunity to rally together and show our support for a cause that embodies the spirit of compassion and equity. Let’s empower our students to make a difference in the lives of others while embarking on their own journey of growth and discovery.

Thank you for your support.
