We finish the penultimate week of the term very wet! The fields are soaked, so preparations for the summer sports programmes have been seriously hampered.

The inclement weather didn’t prevent the final Variety Concert, which was staged last night. For some Year 13s this was their last, and their swan song performances were memorable. Some of these performers have participated in at least ten of these concerts in their time at St Bede’s. For others, it was their first time involved; they faced their fears and stepped onto the stage. It was an outstanding night’s entertainment enjoyed by a packed Performing Arts Centre.

Our BLE (Bedean Learning Environment) initiative continues to be embedded. This is an initiative to reward specific behaviours. Behaviours focused on are ‘Be Courageous’, ‘Everyone Matters’, ‘Develop Faith’, ‘Embrace Opportunity’ and ‘Strive to Succeed’. These behaviours are being taught specifically in tutor groups.

Staff then award ‘recognitions’ to students who display these behaviours via our own BLE app. The last two lessons were ‘Embrace Opportunity’ and ‘Strive to Succeed’.

‘Embrace Opportunity’ key behaviours are

          o Being actively involved in his learning,

          o Fully participating and

          o Demonstrating leadership

‘Strive to Succeed’ key behaviours are

         o Constant Improvement,

         o Listens well to advice,

         o Highly motivated,

         o Learns from his mistakes and

         o Strives for excellence

From next week, the students will be able to log on to the BLE app and see how many recognitions they have, who they received them from, and what the recognition was for.   After 3 recognitions an email will go home to acknowledge the student’s good behaviour.

Movie vouchers, sports equipment, tuck shop vouchers etc. are awarded every two weeks to those students who have received more than one recognition in that fortnight. These prize draws are small year-group prize draws. At the end of the year larger year-group prize draws will be held where the student can win, tuxedo hire for leavers ball, leavers gear vouchers, experiences (paintball etc.), headphones.
