Fine tuning ahead of competitions

Rosemary McBryde —

The St Bede’s musicians have a busy term preparing for events and performances, including two major competitions.

On Saturday 24 May, three bands will compete at the Smokefree Rockquest: the Haizys, a Year 13 band which was named in the top 20 in the national competition last year; the BackBeats, a Year 10 band which has been playing together for a year; and a new band Lowlife Raccoons formed by Year 9 and 11 students. Come along to support the bands at the Aurora Centre at Burnside High School. They are performing in Session 3, from 5pm.

On Wednesday 4 June, St Bede’s Bedean Choir and other college musicians will give a lunchtime concert at St Mary’s ProCathedral in Manchester St. The concert begins at 1:10, with an entry cost of $15. Proceeds will be donated to the school.

This will be a wonderful preparation for the Big Sing Canterbury competition on Friday, 6 June in the Christchurch Town Hall. The Bedean Choir will perform at 10:15am and again in the Gala Concert which begins at 6:30pm. Tickets for the Gala Concert are available at Ticketmaster, and tickets for the morning session will be available at the venue.

Finally, on Wednesday 18 June, the Term 2 Variety Concert will be on in the PAC at 7pm. This will be a show packed with soloists and ensembles, including Bedean Choir and Jazz Band. Please save the date for what will be another great night of St Bede’s talent.
