CORONAVIRUS ALERT

Madeleine Castle —

On advice from the NZ Ministry of Education and along with all other Christchurch schools, St Bede's College are making steps to safeguard all students from the coronavirus.

We are all aware of the coronavirus that is sweeping through China and gradually spreading worldwide.  We have a number of Chinese families within the St Bede's community, both in the Day School and as Boarding Students.  No Chinese student at St Bede's shows any sign of having the virus, and none of our students come from Wuhan or Hubei Province.

Along with other Christchurch Boarding Schools, all students who have transited through or have left from China are being isolated for 14 days after their arrival date in New Zealand.  This has meant that our Chinese Boarders have had to leave the Boarding school and remain in isolation for that 14 day period.  While the boys are in isolation, their health and general well-being is being closely and regularly monitored.

These boys are very upset not to be attending school as well as missing out on all the activities happening at this time.  This is particularly true for those boys who are starting at the College this year. They are still looking forward to becoming part of the Bedean community and studying at their school of choice.

The International Staff ask you to remember that this situation is not of the students' making and to welcome them back to school once their 14-day isolation stand-down has finished.
